Son Nguyen
Son Nguyen is a dedicated cellist, scholar, and FGLI student whose musical journey is defined by perseverance and initiative. He has served as principal cellist of the University of Delaware Symphony Orchestra as a freshman, where he performed as a Presidential Scholar on a full scholarship. In Fall 2026, he will attend Boston University as a cello performance major.
Son has performed with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as both a scholarship recipient and Collegiate Fellow, appearing at the Kimmel Center and participating in masterclasses with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Curtis Institute of Music. He previously served as Principal Cellist of the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra and Principal Cellist of the Delaware All-State Orchestra for two consecutive years. In 2024, he won the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and performed as a featured soloist.
A recipient of multiple scholarships, including from the Music School of Delaware, Son is also a QuestBridge Finalist and a Governor’s School of Excellence participant. He has also been recognized with the Mindful Musician Award twice (Music & Mindfulness Summer Camp) for artistic and personal growth.
Beyond the stage, Son is a professional wedding and church cellist, performing across Delaware and at venues such as Oheka Castle. He is also an active follower of Christ, an award-winning photographer, and a community leader who founded his high school’s men’s volleyball team and successfully advocated for its official statewide recognition.
